We love winter in the vineyard! Pruning starts as soon as all the leaves have fallen off the vines. Early winter is usually cold but calm and it's peaceful out there. We head out early each morning with our coats, beanies and secateurs and get started as the sun rises over the Orielton hills. Working our way up and down all the rows, we choose the best canes growing in the right spot to keep for next year's growth. The end of August is the deadline as buds start to burst in September.
This is the Isles family who farmed Killara Farm from the 1930s. We live here now and grow grapes and make wine but have been lucky enough to have visits from the Isles recently. Thanks to Wendy Isles who has shared her family’s pictures of this place. #coalrivervalley #sorell #farming #tasmania #pinotnoir #isles #farmhistory
